Fr. William (Bill) McGoldrick, a senior priest of the Detroit archdiocese, died January 8, 2011. He was 91.
Fr. McGoldrick is predeceased by his two siblings, survived by three nieces and two nephews.
Ordained in 1943, he was the founding pastor of St. Edmund Parish in Warren in 1961 and served there for 27 years. Prior to that assignment, he served as an associate pastor at St. Mary’s, Manchester; St. Benedict, Highland Park; and St. Paul on the Lake, Grosse Pointe Farms.
Fr. McGoldrick was the subject of a newspaper profile in the September 15, 2006 Michigan Catholic for his talents as a skilled harmonica player who would perform in public to raise funds for local faith-based charities.
On Monday, January 10, from 5 to 9 p.m., visitation begins at Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack Avenue (at East Outer Drive-Whittier), Grosse Pointe Park (313-881-8500). On Tuesday, January 11, visitation moves to St. Edmund Parish, 14025 Twelve Mile (just east of Schoenherr), Warren (586-772-2720), from 4 to 8 p.m. On Wednesday, January 12, in repose at the church at 10 followed by funeral liturgy at 11 a.m.
