DETROIT — Hundreds of clergy, laity and religious gathered to pray for the repose of one of Detroit's most well-respected priests, as the faithful continued to mourn Msgr. Daniel Trapp, who died Jan. 26 at the age of 66.
Emotional vigils took place Feb. 1 at Sacred Heart Major Seminary and Feb. 2 at St. Augustine and St. Monica Parish, the two communities Msgr. Trapp served, before his funeral liturgy Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, with Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron presiding.
Msgr. Trapp, who served for more than 30 years as a spiritual director, associate professor and mentor at Sacred Heart and as a beloved shepherd at his east-side parish for nearly the same length of time, touched countless lives in southeast Michigan.
Speaking with Detroit Catholic, Auxiliary Bishop Gerard W. Battersby called Msgr. Trapp "one of the finest priests in the history of the Archdiocese of Detroit,” adding his impact on the Catholic community will continue to be felt for generations.
