Irish, Eaglets and Bulldogs are Prep Bowl winners

DETROIT — Vengeance was in the air at the 2012 CHSL Prep Bowl.

Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard 17, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 12 — In the wildcard opener of the day’s three-game card, Fr. Gabriel Richard had two scores to settle with Notre Dame. The Pontiac Irish walloped the Ann Arbor Irish in last year’s wildcard game, 38-7, and in a league game earlier this year, 28-16.

Running back Ashton Hundley rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown to lead Richard.

Steve Tracey’s 27-yard field goal and a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mason Sarosi to Michael Wolf established a first-half 17-0 lead.

Notre Dame’s Jermaih Johnson scored twice for Notre Dame’s points.

This was Gabriel Richard’s third Prep Bowl victory in the last four years.

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 27, Novi Detroit Catholic Central 10 — What a difference a week makes. In a complete reversal, the Eaglets played nearly flawless football in avenging a stinging 35-13 loss to the Shamrocks a week earlier to win the A-B championship, its first since 2005.

St. Mary’s offense rushed for 263 yards, led by senior Parker McInnis, who had 107 yards including a 45-yard touchdown run. The Eaglets built a 14-0 halftime lead, only to see it nearly disappear when Catholic Central scored 10 points in a three-minute span to open the third quarter.

St. Mary’s scored twice in the fourth quarter to settle the outcome. Fullback Grant Niemiec plunged twice for touchdowns, and quarterback Matt Linehan went 5-for-11, including a 17-yard touchdown pass to end Van Jefferson.

Detroit Loyola 42, Allen Park Cabrini 0 — The Bulldogs won their second straight C-D championship, dominating Cabrini from start to finish. Loyola rushed for 298 yards in the first half. Halfback Keymonne Gabriel carried nine times for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Toby Sharpe finished with 73 rushing yards and two scores. Loyola also won last year’s title in a shutout against Royal Oak Shrine.
