Jane McCosky, 88, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Dearborn, died July 2 at Hospice House.
Mrs. McCosky was born June 13, 1924, in Detroit, the second daughter of Martha (Nykiel) and Frank Malicki.
Following her graduation from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge, she entered Michigan State University, from which she graduated with a degree in elementary education. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and the Newman Club.
In 1946, she married Detroit Tigers outfielder Barney McCosky. The couple made their home in Dearborn, where they raised their only child, son Dennis. Mrs. McCosky was very active in Divine Child Parish, serving as president of the Altar Society. She was also elected as president of the Council of Catholic Women for the Archdiocese of Detroit.
In retirement, the couple moved to Venice, Fla., and enjoyed golfing, fishing, beach activities and island cruises.
After her husband’s death, Mrs. McCosky dedicated much of her time to various altruistic pursuits. She was a hospice volunteer for a number of years and was a member of Epiphany Parish in Venice, Fla.
She is survived by her son Dennis, grandson Brian, sisters Evelyn Hughes and Mary Terese Bristol, niece Mary Lynn Hughes, nephews, cousins and a host of good friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Fabian Parish in Farmington Hills at a future date.
