Detroit -- The Loyola Bulldogs took home the Catholic League C-D Division Championship with a 38-6 win over the Shrine Knights. It was the second of three Catholic High School League championship games played at Ford Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Loyola Bulldogs started the game as if shot out of a cannon, then never looked back with solid performances on both sides of the ball.

Junior quarterback Montel Cooks ran an option into the end zone for the two point conversion.
After forcing a three-and-out, the Bulldogs began the next drive at their own 47. A few plays later, Cooks hooked up with Fant on a pass over the right side, which Fant carried into the endzone for the 33-yard score midway through the first quarter. The two-point conversion succeeded again with junior running back Jaylin Gaddie jumping on a fumble just across the goal line. The score became 16-0.
After another strong defensive stand spelled a three-and-out for the Shrine Knights, the Bulldogs started on their own 30 yard line. Shrine sophomore linebacker Conner Francek picked off a pass to give the Knights possession at the Bulldogs 43.
A few plays later, however, the Knights returned the favor by tossing an interception of their own. Loyola junior Amos Houston picked that one off and took it to the Shrine 37.
The Bulldog possession ended with a Shrine fumble recovery on the 12 yard line – picked up by sophomore defensive back Jack Wangler. The recovery only wound up counting for field position, however, as the Knights punted on another three-and-out, giving the Bulldogs the ball on the Shrine 35.
From there, the Bulldogs exhibited an effective run game, taking the ball all 35 yards on the ground, capped off by a four-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Tyrone Jarrett. That put Loyola up 22-0. The two point conversion failed on the next play when a pass to the back of the end zone sailed high.
Shrine and Loyola traded short drives and punts during the third quarter, until Jarrett capped a 40-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown run with four seconds left in the period. A successful run for the two extra points made it a 30-0 score.
Loyola would strike again after Jarrett intercepted a ball across midfield and took it down to the Shrine seven yard line. Two plays later, junior Jaylin Gaddie took the ball in from four yards out. Gaddie ran for the two extra points, too, making it a 38-0 score.
Shrine got on the scoreboard with less than three minutes left in the game. They capped a long scoring drive when sophomore Jack Wangler caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from classmate Conner Francek. The point-after try was unsuccessful.
Though both teams had possessions after that point, neither scored, making the final score 38-6.
