LANSING — The Michigan Catholic Conference is helping the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in launching an advertising campaign across the state of Michigan to highlight threats to religious liberty.
The ad campaign, which is also being run across the country, will feature broadcast, digital and print media advertising — much of it in secular news sources — promoting the message that religious liberty should remain an issue on voters’ minds.
“The purpose for this effort is to help promote religious liberty in civic dialogue leading up to the election and to ensure, regardless of who wins the presidency, that the issue remains an important one entering 2013,” said Dave Maluchnik, director of communications for the MCC.
In Michigan, approximately 80 percent of the effort will be via radio advertisements, including in the Detroit market (WWJ and WOMC), Grand Rapids (WOOD and WTRV), Lansing (WJIM) and Marquette (WDMJ). Spots will also be heard on Michigan’s Big Show, a statewide program, and Ave Maria Radio, a Catholic broadcasting station out of Ann Arbor.
The effort also included a full-page, color ad in The Oakland Press on Oct. 28 and banner ads on MLive.com that direct to the USCCB’s religious freedom webpage.
The ad campaign began Oct. 25 and will continue until Nov. 9.
