DETROIT — Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron has announced the appointments of 16 priests who will serve two-year terms as vicars representing the 16 vicariates of the Archdiocese of Detroit. Vicariates serve as pastoral regions made up of parishes in a given geographical location.

By virtue of their appointment, the priests will also serve as members of the archdiocesan Presbyteral Council, the main consultative body that advises and assists the archbishop on matters of pastoral importance.

The priests appointed to fill the terms, which will last from 2016-18, were announced July 14. They are:

West Wayne Vicariate: Fr. Kenneth Chase, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Dearborn

SERF Vicariate: Fr. James Commyn, pastor of St. Lucy Parish in St. Clair Shores

Central Macomb Vicariate: Fr. Michael Cooney, pastor of St. Peter Parish in Mt. Clemens

Blue Water Vicariate: Fr. Joseph Esper, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Ira Township

Genesis Vicariate: Fr. Miroslaw Frankowski, S.Ch., pastor of St. Florian Parish in Hamtramck

Southwest Vicariate: Fr. Marc Gawronski, pastor of St. Gabriel Parish in Detroit

South Oakland Vicariate: Fr. James Grau, associate pastor of St. Anastasia Parish in Troy

Lakes Vicariate: Fr. Ronald Jozwiak, administrator of Prince of Peace Parish in West Bloomfield

Northwest Wayne Vicariate: Msgr. John Kasza, pastor of St. James Parish in Novi

Pontiac Area Vicariate: Fr. James Kean, pastor of St. Damien of Molokai Parish in Pontiac

Renaissance Vicariate: Fr. Shafique Masih, pastor of St. Jude Parish in Detroit

Trinity Vicariate: Fr. Michael Scherrey, CC, pastor of St. Scholastica Parish in Detroit

North Macomb Vicariate: Fr. Christopher Talbot, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi-St. Maximillian Kolbe Parish in Ray Township

Thumb Vicariate: Fr. Richard Treml, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Sacred Heart Mission and St. Mary Burnside Parish in North Branch

Monroe Vicariate: Fr. Michael Woroniewicz, pastor of St. Gabriel Parish in Ida

Downriver Vicariate: Fr. Edward Zaorski, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Melvindale and SS. Andrew and Benedict Parish in Detroit
