This will be the final year as principal of Holy Family Regional School for principal Sr. Karen Hawver, SC. After 20 years of service for the school, which has campuses in Rochester and Rochester Hills, Sr. Hawver plans to step down and continue her ministry with the Sisters of Charity. She will be present at Holy Family’s Alumni Celebration Mass and reception at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 at St. Andrew Church, 1400 Inglewood in Rochester.




Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy have named Daron L. Gifford as chairman of the schools’ board of trustees. Gifford, who is a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Troy, has been actively involved with the Notre Dame community for more than 12 years. He succeeds Bruce M. Barron.


St. Jenn Graus, CSJ, former Sterling Heights resident, made her first profession of vows Jan. 15 with the Congregation of St. Joseph at the Congregation’s LaGrange Park, Ill. Center. Sr. Graus became a novice in 2008 and is currently an interactive technology coordinator and teacher at Josephinum Academy in Chicago.


Warren resident Victoria Koivu-Rybicki made her commitment as an IHM Associate with the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The “Speak Lord; Your Servant Listens,” themed ceremony took place at the Visitation Barn on the IHM Motherhouse campus.


Boy Scout Troop 271, hosted by St. Michael Parish in Livonia, has had 11 boys earn their Eagle Scout Award in the past year, an unusual feat according to a local official from the Boy Scouts of America. The young men (pictured above): Timothy Chmielewski,  Noah Bagazinski, Shawn Hand, Colin Sharples, Carl Rayford, John Bagazinski, Matthew McClintock   Nicklas Theke. Matthew Flood, Brandon Syme, and Matthew Bagazinski. Calling them the “pride of our community,” Fr. William Tindall, Pastor of St. Michael, praised the scouts for their contribution to society.
