‘A Matter of Balance’ series
A program addressing issues related to the fear of falling will be presented Mondays beginning April 13 at St. Lawrence Parish in Utica. The series, “A Matter of Balance,” is hosted by St. Lawrence Parish’s Faith and Wellness Ministry in conjunction with St. John Providence Health System’s Faith Community Partnership. The program, which is especially geared toward seniors, is also open to anyone experiencing problems with balance resulting from hip or knee troubles, stroke, ear problems or other issues. Classes are from 9-11 a.m. for eight weeks. Cost is free, but registration is required by emailing [email protected] or calling (586) 254-3779.
Health fair, legal presentation
Holy Innocents-St. Barnabas Parish in Eastpointe will host a health fair April 23, which will include blood pressure screenings, demonstrations and information from nearly 20 vendors. Also included as part of the fair will be a presentation geared toward helping seniors navigate often-challenging legal and personal issues. “Getting Your Affairs in Order” will be led by attorney Michael G. Kelly, a local lawyer specializing in estate planning, elder law, probate and business law. The presentation will also focus on elder issues such as long-term care planning, including Alzheimer’s, dementia and Medicaid planning, as well as mediation involving family conflict issues. The health fair is sponsored by Holy Innocents-St. Barnabas Parish’s Grace-Filled Aging group, and will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 24800 Phlox, Eastpointe. - A “Cabin Fever Bingo Night” will be held March 21 at SS. Peter and Paul Parish’s Keenan Hall in North Branch. The event, which features door prizes, deli, raffles, special games and a grand prize of a $100 gift certificate to Bryan’s Family Market, will be sponsored by the North Branch Altar Society and Knights of Columbus. Doors open at 6 p.m., with Bingo starting at 7:30 p.m.
- Our Lady of Hope Parish in St. Clair Shores hosts a monthly Mass followed by healing prayers at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month, except for holy days or national holidays. The Mass, sponsored by the parish’s Joy of Jesus Prayer Community, takes place at the parish at 28301 Little Mack, St. Clair Shores.
- Fr. Eric Fedewa, associate pastor of St. Hugo of the Hills Parish in Bloomfield Hills, will present “Making Sense Out of Pain and Sorrow” on March 23 at St. Faustina Parish in Warren. The 6 p.m. talk is free and open to the public. Call (586) 773-9220 ext. 111 for more information.
