Sr. Francesca Bartos, OP

20-BartosSr. Francesca Bartos, formerly known as Agnes Elizabeth Bartos, died Nov. 30 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 90 and in the 74th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Bartos was born in Chicago to Francis J. and Mary A. (Mudrak) Bartos. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sr. Bartos spent 30 years ministering in elementary education in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Arizona, California and New Mexico. In Michigan, she taught at Sacred Heart School, Munising (1944-45); St. Scholastica School, Detroit (1946-47); Precious Blood School, Detroit (1947-50); Resurrection School, Lansing (1962-64); and St. Gabriel School, Detroit (1965). From 1984-85, Sr. Bartos was chapter secretary in the Southwest Chapter Office.

Sr. Bartos is survived by a brother, James Bartos of Woodridge, Ill., and a sister, Bernardino Kelso of New Lenox, Ill.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
