Sr. Jean Burbo, IHM, 83, died June 19 at the IHM Health Care Center.
Barbara Jean was born June 29, 1931, in Trenton to William and Mary (Navarre) Burbo. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Monroe in 1950 and received the religious name, Sister Incarnita.
Sr. Burbo earned a degree from Marygrove College, and taught at St. Mary, Monroe; Holy Name, Birmingham; Christ the King, Detroit; St. Patrick, Wyandotte; Sacred Heart, Dearborn; and Bishop Gallagher, Harper Woods. She also taught in Miami and Cleveland.
She also taught history and political science at the collegiate level at Marygrove College, Detroit, and Siena Height College, Adrian, where she chaired the department. Sr. Burbo later ministered in several capacities in Texas before returning to Monroe in 2010.
Sr. Burbo was preceded in death by sisters Alma LeFleur, Edna Mathewson, Emma Bogits, Vera Deikman and Virginia Wood; and brothers Thomas, Walter and Donald Burbo; along with their spouses. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was June 23 at the IHM Motherhouse.
