Sr. Lorraine Mordenski, OP

Sr. Lorraine Mordenski, formerly known as Sr. Mary Gabriella Mordenski, died at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 72 and in the 54th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Lorraine was born in Detroit to Stanley and Gertrude (Maciejewski) Mordenski. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in Detroit and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English and a Master of Education degree in guidance, both from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sister taught at SS. Peter and Paul, Ruth (1966-68); and St. Ambrose, Detroit (1968-71). She was a guidance counselor at Rosary High School, Detroit (1971-74); Aquinas High School, Southgate (1974-77); Gabriel Richard High School, Riverview (1977-78); and Bishop Foley High School, Madison Heights (1984-96). She also worked in education in Toledo, Ohio. She ministered in the Congregation Central Services Office in Adrian from 1978 to 1984, and was chapter prioress in South East Adrian Chapter in Farmington from 1996 to 2002. She was a pastoral minister for more than six years from 2003-08 at Mercy Bellbrook Retirement Community and from 2008-09 at Sanctuary at Bellbrook, both in Rochester Hills. Sister was a resident of McAuley Center in Farmington Hills from 2010-12 and became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2012.

She is survived by two sisters; Jan Mordenski of Farmington and Sr. Annice Mordenski, also an Adrian Dominican Sister.

The funeral liturgy was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Feb. 25. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
