Sr. Margaret Mary Baker, HVM

Sr. Margaret Mary Baker, HVM, the oldest of Marion and George Baker’s 10 children, entered eternal life Jan. 25 at the I.H.M. nursing facility in Monroe. Fr. Daniel Complo celebrated the liturgy Jan. 29. Sr. Margaret graduated from St. Charles, Detroit, received a B.S. in nursing from Mercy College and an M.A. in theology from Marquette University.

She entered the Sisters, Home Visitors of Mary, in 1954 and served at St. George, St. Leo, St. Edward, St. Catherine, Gesu, St. Gregory, Precious Blood, St. Benedict, St. Juliana and Visitation parishes in Detroit. In Grand Rapids, Sr. Margaret ministered at St. Stephen Parish.

She had a special love for the catechumenate and the giving of retreats. She worked in the archdiocesan Religious Education Office, assisting then-Fr. (now Msgr.) Robert Humitz with his book “Man Meets God,” published in 1971. Later, Sr. Margaret assisted with the Racism Teleconference from the Black Catholic Affairs Office. She also served as a counselor and adult educator at Eagle Crest Rehab Center, St. Ambrose and St. Joan of Arc parishes in Arizona.
