Sr. Mary Elizabeth Crimmins, OP

Sr. Mary Elizabeth Crimmins, formerly known as Sr. Anthony Marie Crimmins, died March 26 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 82 and in 63rd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Crimmins was born in Port Huron to John Earl and Mattie (Marx) Crimmins. She graduated from St. Stephen High School in Port Huron and received a bachelor of commercial education degree in secretarial science from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, a master of arts degree in business education from the University of Detroit, and a master of arts degree in religious education from the University of San Francisco.

Sister spent 27 years ministering in elementary and secondary education and pastoral ministry in Michigan, Illinois, California, Arizona, Tennessee and Washington, D.C. In Michigan, she taught at St. Mary, Rockwood (1953-55); St. Augustine, Detroit (1955-58); St. Ambrose High, Detroit (1958-60, 1966-67); St. Lawrence High, Utica (1960-62); and SS. Peter and Paul High, Ruth (1962-66). She was a secretary at St. Brendan, Detroit (1996-97); and Our Lady of Sorrows, Farmington (1997-2000). She was involved in pastoral ministry at Mother of Our Savior, Detroit (1983); and St. Denis, Lexington (1994-96). And she was religious education director at St. John-St. Florian, Standish (1979-82); St. Philip Neri and St. Ann, Coleman (1982-83); and St. Stephen, Port Huron (1985-86). Sister also ministered six years for the Adrian Dominican Sisters in the Retirement Office and the Development Office in Adrian, the Nokomis Chapter Office in Dearborn Heights and the Holy Cross Provincial House in Oakland, Calif. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2007.

Sr. Crimmins is survived by a brother, Thomas Crimmins of Port Huron. She was preceded in death by an aunt, Sr. Anthony Marx, and a cousin, Sr. Winifred Marx, both Adrian Dominican Sisters.

The funeral liturgy was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on April 1. Burial will be in the congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
