Sr. Mary Mercita Logan, RSM, died Jan. 28 at McAuley Life Center in Farmington Hills. She was 83.

She was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Berkley to Joseph and Mary (Huhn) Logan, the third of five daughters. Baptized Dolores Margaret at Our Lady of La Salette Parish, she was only 11 years old when her mother died. Sr. Logan entered the novitiate with the Sisters of Mercy in Detroit on Sept. 7, 1948. On Aug. 16, 1954, she made perpetual vows.

For 21 years, Sr. Logan taught children in Hazel Park, Midland, Grand Haven, Detroit, Dearborn, Reese, and Holland, as well as in Epworth, Iowa.

In the early 1970s, Sr. Logan served as a pastoral associate in Holland, Saginaw and Grand Rapids. She also served as director of continuing education for the Sisters of Mercy for several years and as administrator of McAuley Center in Farmington Hills. Sr. Logan later served in pastoral care in hospitals and long-term care centers, including in Lansing and Dimondale Care Center and Mercy Hospital, Port Huron.

Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Feb. 2 at McAuley Life Center. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
