Sr. Patricia M. O’Donnell, IHM, formerly known as Sr. Generosa O’Donnell, IHM, died Feb. 5, at the IHM Sisters’ Motherhouse in Monroe. She was 82.
Born July 1, 1928 in Detroit, one of three children of Gerald and Olivette (Wall) O’Donnell, she was given the name Mary Patricia. She became a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1946, taking the religious name of Sr. Generosa.
Sr. O’Donnell earned a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College, Detroit, and a master’s degree from Wayne State University. She taught for 53 years at St. Raymond, Holy Trinity, St. Matthew and Annunciation, all in Detroit; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Emmett, St. Stephen, Port Huron; and at a school in Missouri.
In 1972 Sr. O’Donnell was missioned to Gesu School in Detroit, and spent the next 30 years at Gesu teaching, mainly in the junior high.
In 2006 she retired to the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe and four years later entered the Health Care Center. At the time of her death she was under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald, and her sister, Sr. Mary Therese (Raphael Marie), IHM.
Her funeral Mass was Feb. 8 in the chapel of the IHM Motherhouse. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery on the motherhouse campus.
