Sr. Wilfred Marie Dusek, OP

Sr. Wilfred Marie Dusek, OP, formerly known as Helen Dusek, died Oct. 17 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 92 and in the 76th year of religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Henry and Rose (Zednik) Dusek, she graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in history from Siena Heights College (University), Adrian, and a Master of Arts degree in history from John Carroll University, Cleveland.

Sr. Dusek spent 40 years ministering in education at Visitation and St. Jude, both in Detroit; St. Agatha in Redford Township; St. Joseph, Wyandotte; St. John, Ypsilanti; and Queen of the Miraculous Medal, Jackson, as well as at schools in Illinois, Ohio and Iowa.

She was a housekeeper for 30 years at an Ohio parish, and became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2005.

Sr. Dusek is survived by a sister, Rose Marie Cole of Parma Heights, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two cousins, Srs. Grace Genevieve Zelezny and Mary Scholastica Zelezny, both Adrian Dominicans.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 21 in St. Catherine Chapel, Adrian. Burial was to be in the congregation’s cemetery, Adrian.
