United in Faith: The pastoral visit of Cardinal Pizzaballa to Detroit (VIDEO)

The Archdiocese of Detroit was honored to welcome His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, for a pastoral visit from Dec. 4-7, 2025.

During his time in southeast Michigan, Cardinal Pizzaballa met with the faithful, celebrated Mass, and took part in events celebrating the bonds between Detroit and Jerusalem.

Throughout the weekend, local Catholics raised more than $615,000 to support relief efforts and the work of the Church in the Holy Land, led by the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. When combined with a special archdiocesan-wide collection in August — which raised more than $500,000 — Catholics in southeast Michigan have raised more than $1.1 million this year to support the needs of the Church in the Holy Land.

“I want to thank you and all the community for these beautiful days I spent here in Detroit, where I saw a lot of closeness, a lot of empathy toward what is happening in the Holy Land," Cardinal Pizzaballa said. “Yes, we have a war; we have conflict. But all over the world, there are many others, other persons ready to help and support and cooperate with us. So, thank you, for all of this.”
