Celebrating the 100th anniversary of St. Clare of Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park

Clergy with personal or ministry connections to St. Clare of Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park pose for a group photo with Archbishop Weisenburger at the conclusion of Mass for the parish's centennial on Oct. 11. Among them was Fr. Thomas Quirk (lower right), who was baptized at St. Clare of Montefalco and was ordained a priest by Archbishop Weisenburger eight years ago in Tucson, Arizona. At left is Fr. Andrew Kowalczyk, CSMA, the current pastor of St. Clare.

On Sunday, Oct. 11, Archbishop Weisenburger joined clergy and parishioners past and present in celebrating the centennial Mass for St. Clare of Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park. The historic parish, which for 86 years was under the care of the Augustinian friars, holds the distinction of being the place where Pope Leo XIV began his ordained ministry, as the future Holy Father was ordained a transitional deacon in 1981. Congregants came from far and wide to celebrate 100 years of faith, service and community and to thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed. During the Mass, Archbishop Weisenburger dedicated a new plaque marking the parish's centennial, and unveiled a message from Pope Leo himself offering his apostolic blessing upon the parish.
