Fr. Gary Tierney passed from this life on Nov. 30, 2025, at the age of 84.
Fr. Tierney was born on March 13, 1941, in Detroit, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 3, 1967.
Fr. Tierney served as pastor of St. Alan Parish, Troy; Guardian Angels Parish, Clawson; St. Anne Parish, Monroe; Our Lady Queen of Hope Parish, Detroit; and St. Clement Parish, Dearborn. He also served as parochial vicar for St. Regis Parish, Bloomfield Hills; administrator of St. Colman Parish, Farmington Hills; on the Metropolitan Tribunal; as Secretary to Cardinal John F. Dearden; and as the first director of the permanent diaconate for the Archdiocese of Detroit. Fr. Tierney was given senior status on July 1, 2007.
Fr. Tierney is predeceased by his parents Lewis Roy and Mary Veronica Tierney, his brothers, Roy and Pete, and his sister Marilyn. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Lynch and Sons Funeral Directors-Clawson, from 4–8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.
The funeral Mass for Father Tierney will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Christ, Our Light Catholic Church, 3077 Gloucester, Troy, Michigan 48084, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
