Sr. Mary Vianne Bayus, OP, baptized Therese Bayus, died on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 92 years of age and in the 72nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Vianne was born in North Branch, Michigan, to Stephen and Viola (Schutz) Bayus. She graduated from St. Clement High School in Center Line, Michigan, and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.
Sister ministered in elementary education for 30 years in Detroit, Dearborn and Adrian, Michigan, and in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a nurse’s aide for almost eight years in Detroit and Trenton, Michigan, and a volunteer physical therapist assistant for seven years at Maria Health Care Center (Dominican Life Center) in Adrian. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 1995.
Sister Vianne is survived by a sister, Mrs. Pauline Bayus Zott, other loving family and her Adrian Dominican Sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Paul Bayus, and an aunt, Sister Jane Edward Schutz, also an Adrian Dominican Sister.
Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in the Gathering Space of St. Catherine Chapel. The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 am Thursday, June 4, 2026. Prayers of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.
