May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Molly Anne Nicholson, OP

Sr. Molly Anne Nicholson, OP, formerly known as Sister Marie Mark Nicholson, died on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 85 years of age and in the 67th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Molly Anne was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Mark and Sarah (McAlinden) Nicholson. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Psychology and Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. She was also certified as a chaplain and as a lay pastoral minister.

Sister Molly Anne ministered over 14 years in elementary and secondary education in Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio, and Ubly and Detroit, Michigan. This includes two years teaching at Hoban Dominican High School in Cleveland, an institution of the Congregation. She served the Congregation for six years as a member of the General Council and two years as an associate director for spiritual direction and retreats at Weber Center. She also served the Congregation as the co-chair of Transformations ’89.

She ministered for 18 years in pastoral and retreat ministry in Cleveland and Litchfield, Ohio, and a total of 11 years as director and then the vice president of spirituality and mission at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nevada, a legacy institution of the Congregation. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2021.

Sister Molly Anne was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James, Patrick, Terrence, Thomas, and William; and her sister, Gael Biondo, a former member of the Congregation. She is survived by other loving family and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in the Gathering Space of St. Catherine Chapel. The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 am Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Prayers of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
