Do you ever wonder what to make of things that are going on in the world today? What our culture is becoming, what your friends and relatives are doing and thinking regarding long-standing moral issues that used to be pretty clear? Is your own decision-making a little confused or changing or just looking for clarification about right & wrong, church teaching, how you should react to some of these new or evolving situations both publicly and privately?
For this reason, St. Michael’s has developed a new series of talks called The Hard Questions to deal with just such issues! Things like gender issues, IVF, embryonic adoption, trafficking, Catholic funeral & death issues, reproductive questions, assisted suicide & euthanasia, spiritual indifference and many more “hard questions”.
Our speakers will be well-qualified in their fields and there will be plenty of time for your questions and discussion in an easy and open, non-judgmental environment.
The first talk will be on Thursday, November 6th, at 7 PM in the SMA School Cafeteria. Our subject will be gender issues and our speaker will be Fr. Peter F. Ryan, S.J., Professor of Life Ethics at SHMS, teaching moral theology and eschatology and giving spiritual direction to current seminarians. He was a consultant to Bishop Daniel Thomas of the Diocese of Toledo for his pascal letter “The Body Reveals the Person: A Catholic Response to the Challenges of Gender Ideology”. Fr. Ryan holds a doctorate in moral theology from the Gregorian University in Rome and has been published in many respected journals on bioethical subjects, including the relationship between moral action and ultimate human fulfillment.
